I research and develop eCommerce systems both for commercial enterprises and for teaching, research and learning. I research and teach within the Business Information Systems discipline at the J.E. Cairnes School of Business and Economics, National University of Ireland, Galway. I'm interested in how people use various information systems, in particular how they gain value from their use. My research spans decision making in information systems (IS), experiential aspects of IS, the influence of information presentation formats, consumer behaviour and success metrics for online business. As a consultant, I specialise in online shopping systems and their linkages with consumer decision making, the consumer experience and behaviour. I also have a wide range of experience with web development projects, content management, social networking strategies, email marketing, search engine strategies and competitor analyses. In the past I have used this site to display my photography, much of which is still available. The other main reason for this site is to have a place where I can write about some eCommerce issues, in particular I like to provide information on how small and medium sized businesses can use the Internet, especially where they offer their products and services online. Of course, it's not as easy to do it right as most references to business online would have you believe. Compared to opening other new channels for your business, its not any more difficult either. If you have a specific issue you'd like advice on, please fell free to contact me.
